On August 20, Charles Grim Rudolph, 32, of Riviera Beach, Florida, was sentenced to 114 months in federal prison followed by two years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Kenneth A. Marra issued the sentence after Rudolph was convicted at trial for being a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The incident leading to his conviction occurred on July 26, 2023. After 9:30 p.m., a West Palm Beach Police officer observed a car with illegal tint leaving a motel parking lot and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Rudolph, did not possess a valid license. Upon noticing two baggies of drugs near the gear shifter, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle. Inside the purse of Rudolph’s girlfriend, who was seated as a passenger, the officer found a loaded .38 special revolver. DNA tests confirmed that Rudolph's DNA was present on the firearm.

This conviction marks Rudolph's fifth for being a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm. At the time of his arrest for this offense, he was already on probation for similar charges.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida; Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of the FBI Miami Field Office; Special Agent in Charge Christopher A. Robinson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Miami Field Division; and West Palm Beach Police Chief Frank Adderley announced the sentencing.

The investigation was carried out by the FBI, ATF, and West Palm Beach Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emily Walters and Adam McMichael prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and other violent crimes through coordinated law enforcement efforts and community engagement strategies. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy under PSN on May 26, 2021.
