4

The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce announced today that Manny Medina, Founder and Managing Partner of Medina Capital, Chairman of Cyxtera Technologies, Executive Chairman of Appgate, visionary and Founder of eMerge Americas, will be honored with the 2022 Sand in My Shoes Award®.  The ceremony will take place on Thursday, October 27, at Jungle Island from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Chamber’s Sand in My Shoes Award, considered among this community’s most prestigious accolades, was established in 1981, based on an editorial delivered by Ralph Renick, the late WTVJ vice president and news director. The award is presented to outstanding community leaders who have made significant contributions to the region, demonstrating a deep love and commitment to Miami as the best possible place in which to live, work and play.

“Manny Medina has made an outstanding contribution to transforming Miami into a world-class technology and innovation ecosystem. We are thrilled to be honoring one of South Florida's most successful tech entrepreneurs” said Alfred Sanchez, president and CEO of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

Manny Medina’s extraordinary vision and commitment to transforming Miami into the tech hub of the Americas supports his belief that the new technology today will resolve all of the issues we believe are existential.

“Manny has been an avid supporter of our home-grown young professionals. It’s important to him to make time for intimate discussions with young professional groups, sharing his insights on growing as a leader and focusing on the important things in life that make it worthwhile,” commented Roberto R. Muñoz, who becomes Chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors at its June Goals Conference. “Manny is a frequent speaker to Leadership Miami classes and at Helping Young People Engage (HYPE) gatherings.”

“I am truly honored and humbled by The Chamber’s recognition,” said Manny Medina. “I am very grateful on how great Miami has been to our family, and it has been a privilege to help launch this technology revolution which we believe is good for the city.”

As members of the Chamber, Manny and Melissa Medina are working with the Chamber to build a robust tech committee to help solve community problems by working hand-in-hand with our Resilience, Transportation, Workforce Housing, and Health Care Committees.

Manuel D. Medina is Chairman of Cyxtera Technologies and Executive Chairman of Appgate, bringing together a set of modern, software-defined cybersecurity capabilities with a global data center platform to deliver secure infrastructure solutions to enterprises and government agencies.

Manny was the Founder, Chairman of the board and CEO of Terremark, a publicly traded company on NASDAQ until April of 2011, when Terremark was acquired by Verizon for an enterprise value of $2 billion. Under his leadership, Terremark distinguished itself as a leading global provider of enterprise cloud computing, data center and cybersecurity services for Fortune 1,000 enterprises and federal government agencies.

Following the sale of Terremark, Manny founded Medina Capital, a private equity firm with a focus on emerging cybersecurity technologies, in 2012 and currently serves as Managing Partner.  He is also the Founder and Chairman of the board of eMerge Americas, the premier technology event connecting the U.S., Latin America and Europe.

Manny joins a remarkable list of some of Greater Miami’s most influential business and community leaders whose tireless efforts have enhanced our community through a combination of passion, performance, dedication, and devotion.
