City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is proud to announce the comeback of the iconic physical Big Orange for New Year's Eve on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Mayor Suarez expressed his support for this community tradition, stating, "I am proud to continue to support the installation of this community tradition." He also highlighted the significance of the Big Orange, which has been a part of Miami's New Year's Eve celebration for over 30 years.

The revival of the Big Orange was made possible through extensive coordination between various organizations. Mayor Suarez acknowledged the efforts of the Hotel InterContinental Miami administrative team, the Greater Miami Host Committee, and the Bayfront Park Management Trust. These organizations worked together to ensure the production of the iconic Big Orange, which was commissioned by the Greater Miami Host Committee and created by industrial artist Steve Carpenter, also known as Mr. Neon, 35 years ago.

Monty Trainer, Chairman of the Greater Miami Host Committee, provided insight into the historical significance of the Big Orange, stating, "Historically, the Big Orange has been installed and positioned in front of the hotel with a test run to follow by the 27th of December." He also mentioned that the installation of the Big Orange will be scheduled earlier this year to accommodate the Orange Bowl Game, which will be hosted by the Hotel InterContinental Miami.

The return of the physical Big Orange is eagerly anticipated by thousands of residents and visitors who participate in Miami's New Year's Eve Bash. It serves as a symbol of celebration and marks the transition into a new year. Mayor Suarez's support for this community tradition reflects his commitment to preserving Miami's cultural heritage and providing memorable experiences for its residents and visitors.

The Big Orange revival is a testament to the collaborative efforts of various organizations and individuals who recognize the significance of this iconic symbol. As the countdown to New Year's Eve continues, Miami residents and visitors can look forward to once again witnessing the grand spectacle of the Big Orange, a tradition that has become deeply ingrained in the city's identity.
