Department of Housing & Community Development Receives National Award

6

City of Miami recently issued the following announcement.

The National Community Development Association (NCDA) recognized the City of Miami Department of Housing & Community Development as a winner of the 2022 Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award for its efforts in the completion of Tuscany Cove, an affordable rental building for seniors in Liberty City. Developed by the longtime, community non-profit Tacolcy Economic Development Corporation and Red Stone Equity Partners, the six-story building opened in late 2019 and features 160 units for low-income seniors who are 60% of area median income or below and seeking to age in place.

Featuring both one- and two-bedroom units, the building is fully leased. On-site amenities include a fitness room, club room, computer room, covered parking, and an expansive, landscaped open-air terrace. The local project was a collaborative funding effort between public and private entities, made possible with $880,000 in City of Miami HOME funding (Home Investment Partnerships Program) along with 1.5 acres of land conveyed by the City Commission, as well as Miami-Dade County Surtax funding and State of Florida Low Income Housing Tax Credits. The total project cost amounted to approximately $34 million. For more on Tuscany Cove, visit www.tuscanycove1.com.

The award was presented last Friday, February 4, during the NCDA’s virtual Winter Meeting. The National Community Development Association (NCDA) is a non-partisan, national non-profit membership-based organization that represents local government departments across the country that administer federally supported community and economic development and affordable housing programs. The Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award is named after Audrey Nelson, who was the first Deputy Executive Secretary of NCDA. For more, visit ncdaonline.org.
