The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced on May 4 that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Jose Isaias Gozo-Murillo, a Nicaraguan national convicted of sexual battery in Miami.
The announcement is part of weekend operations conducted by federal authorities to target noncitizens charged with or convicted of crimes in the United States. The Department of Homeland Security’s news release shows at least another 14 arrests related to offenses such as manslaughter, murder, child-related sex crimes, drug distribution, and assault.
The DHS says nearly 70% of ICE arrests involve noncitizens who are charged with or convicted of crimes in the United States. The May 4 announcement listed arrests involving people from multiple countries, including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security oversees federal work related to border security, immigration enforcement, cybersecurity, and emergency response.
