The Nova Southeastern Sharks Men's and Women's Swim team returned to the pool for the first time in 2023, competing against Florida Southern in a Sunshine State Conference Dual Meet on Thursday afternoon. The NSU Men's team defeated FSC, 132-129, and the Sharks Women's team was victorious 201-61.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S
- Thomas Flower earned the first individual victory for the Sharks men's team, placing first in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:39.48.
- Luca Alessandrini won the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:52.00
- Flower's second individual win of the day came in the 100-freestyle, as he recorded a time of 45.30
- Jarryd Baxter won the 200-backstroke for NSU with a time of 1:52.77
- Umberto Marsic added a win for Nova Southeastern in the 100-butterfly, posting a time of 50.64
- Baxter recorded his second win of the afternoon in the 400-individual medley, finishing eight-seconds faster than the second-place finisher, with a time of 4:02.87
- Marsic, Gustav Henriksen, Alessandrini, and Flower closed the meet with a win for the Sharks in the 400-freestyle relay, recording a time of 3:03.55
- Mollie Morfelt, Savanna Best, Celina Marquez and Emily Trieschmann began the day with a victory in the 200-medley relay for NSU, finishing with a time of 1:44.82, and earning 11 points for the Sharks.
- Ilaria Murzilli (1st/10:20.63), Estelle Bauer (2nd/10:24.35) and Victoria Ortiz (10:32.48) led the way in the 1000-freestyle
- Trieschmann earned an individual win in the 200-freestyle and recorded a time of 1:51.40.
- Best placed first in the 100-breaststroke, finishing in 1:04.41
- Marquez won the 100-backstroke by over three seconds, recording a time of 57.01
- May Lowy was victorious for the Sharks in the 200-butterfly, finishing three seconds ahead of Florida Southern's Sikes, with a time of 2:05.32
- Morfelt added a win in the 50-freestyle, narrowly edging out teammates Trieschmann and Murzilli.
- Emilia Ronningdal won the 100-freestyle by just two-tenths of a second, earning nine points for NSU, with a time of 53.11
- Marquez also won the 200-backstroke with a comfortable eight-second lead, recording a time of 2:06.51
- Murzilli also was victorious in the 500-freestyle, finishing in 5:03.11
- Morfelt won the 100-butterfly for the Sharks, recording a time of 58.72
- Trieschmann earned a victory for NSU in the 400-individual medley, posting a time of 4:25.04
- Bethany Weber, Morfelt, Solana Capalbo and Murzilli won the 400 freestyle relay for Nova Southeastern, recording a time of 3:35.72
Nova Southeastern returns to the pool and hosts West Chester, Indian River, and Lynn from the NSU Aquatics Center on Friday, January 13. The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
