FMU Lions hold on for 1-point victory over Great Lakes to open 2023

Despite trailing by as many as 11 points in the second half, Florida Memorial won their third straight contest with a 96-95 victory over Great Lakes Christian College at the FMU Wellness Center to open the 2023 calendar year.

FMU guard Cam'Ron Wilson finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing 10 boards while teammate Tavin Pierre-Philippe added 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Both players were a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

Tariq Humes continued his hot streak as of late, adding 15 points, four boards, one assist, one block and one steal for the Lions, who improve to double-digit victories for the 2022-23 season.

Overall, FMU only missed four total free throws, connecting on 22-of-26 from the free-throw line.

In the end, the Lions dominated the block, outscoring the Crusaders 58-32 in the paint and outrebounding GLCC 48-39.

Florida Memorial returns to action on Thursday, January 5 as they face Southeastern in Sun Conference play. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
