If improving your financial literacy or learning to control your spending habits are on your list of New Year’s resolutions, FIU’s Financial Wellness Program (FWP) is here to help.
The program aims to help students better understand what it means to live a financially healthy lifestyle by providing a variety of workshops and resources.
The FWP team shared these tips to help you kickstart your financial wellness journey for 2023:
- Apply to at least three scholarships over winter break. Find yourself some extra funds by dedicating some of your free time to applying for scholarships. Review Academic Works to find scholarships available at FIU, and don’t forget to search online for external opportunities, too.
- Create your free iGrad profile.iGrad is an online platform that offers personalized financial literacy resources and tools to help students budget and learn to make good decisions with money. You can also find scholarship opportunities on iGrad.
- Save money by using campus amenities, such as the Wellness and Recreation Center. The FIU Student Health Fee provides funding for a variety of services and amenities at little or no additional cost to students. For instance, the average gym membership costs about $696 per year, but FIU’s gym is available to enrolled students at no additional cost.
- Schedule a financial wellness coaching session. FWP offers one-on-one sessions with coaches who are ready to help you determine your financial goals, answer your questions and guide you in the right direction. To request an appointment, contact the Financial Wellness Program or stop by GC 267.
