Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving

This year, Thanksgiving takes place on Thursday, Nov. 24. Before you celebrate Turkey Day with your loved ones, read up on resources to ensure your Thanksgiving is celebrated safely.

Department Services

Miami-Dade County offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25.

  • Transportation and Public Works will operate on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 24, and a regular weekday schedule Friday, Nov. 25.
  • Solid Waste Management will operate on a normal schedule.
  • Miami-Dade Public Libraries will be closed from Thursday, Nov. 24 through Saturday, Nov. 26.
Events

  • Baptist Health Turkey Trot at Tropical Park
    The  Baptist Health Turkey Trot is returning this year to Tropical Park. Join fellow runners, joggers and walkers for a morning of fun before digging into your Thanksgiving feast Thursday, Nov. 24. Learn more and sign up today as space is limited. 
  • Historic Holiday Décor at the Deering Estate
    Visitors can tour the historic houses at the Deering Estate as they come alive with holiday accents and decorations and festive accents that will transport visitors to the glamor and elegance of the Gilded Age. The Historic Holiday Décor is on display daily, Nov. 25 – Jan. 6, 2023, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is included with admission. 
Safety Tips

  • If you're cooking at home, don't dump oil down the drain, as that can cause clogs and damage. Remember to can the grease.
