Bobcat Volleyball Clinches Second Straight SUN Regular Season Title

St. Thomas Volleyball rises to the top of the Sun Conference once again with a sweep over Florida Memorial University. With the win and Ave Maria loss, the Bobcats have clinched the regular season title and no. 1 seed in the Sun Conference tournament. This marks the first time in program history that STU has gone back-to-back as regular season champions.

Set one got off to a slow start for STU as the team hit .176 with five service errors. In a tight contest it would be the Bobcats to break off in the end and show the resilience that has been all season with a big kill from Sana Dennis. The kill would be followed up with a block from Dennis and Alexandra MacAskill on the Lions best outside hitter to end set one.

Set two was another slow offensive set for both teams. The Bobcats hit .057 while Florida Memorial hit .105. However four service aces would help boost STU for a 25-20 set two victory.

The third set had FMU out to a 3-0 lead. Another combined block by Dennis and MacAskill would help flip the scoreboard at 7-6. The middles dominated with Tayla Barnes leading the way. Three straight kills from Barnes would make it 14-11 and give the Bobcats some cushion. Barnes also collected the final two kills and the last point came off an attack error.

St. Thomas extends their win streak to 13 straight. This is the seventh sweep in that span and the second time the Bobcats sweep the Lions this season taking the overall Battle of Miami Gardens series.

The Bobcats will close the regular season on the road at Southeastern on Saturday, November 5 with first serve at 2 p.m.
