The St. Thomas University (STU) Football team loses in heartbreaking fashion to the Keiser University Seahawks. It was an up and down game in which the Bobcats fought until the end.
The Bobcats opened up with the ball in their hands, which resulted in an early three and out, and a Braden Dick 42-yard punt. Keiser's first possession went a little different than the Bobcats. The Seahawks second play of the game Marques Burgess rushed 58-yards for the score to go up 7-0 after a Chance Gagnon made extra point. When the Bobcats got the ball back however Rontavious Farmer would get in on the action and rush for 61-yards to the house. An Alejandro Prado made extra point tied the game at 7-7.
The STU defense found their rhythm and held the Seahawks offense to a couple of drives that went nowhere. Keiser punted to no other than C'quan Jnopierre which led to a Bobcat 45-yard touchdown return, making it 14-7 STU. After a couple of drives went nowhere for both teams the Bobcats Quarterback Tyler Thomas would find freshman Michael Griffin, who would catch the deep ball and take it 81-yards for the score 21-7 Bobcats. The Bobcats defense made it difficult for the Seahawks offense to do anything and the STU offense would march down the field again for an Alejandro Prado 44-yard field goal 24-7 Bobcats.
STU would turn the ball over on a fumble and Keiser's offense started to click with a couple Burgess runs, which resulted in a Seahawk touchdown making it 24-14. The Bobcats offense couldn't get anything going and a high snap on a punt left the Seahawks with great field position. With the ball at the STU 28 Keiser would be denied by the STU defense, and settle for a 44-yard field goal to end the first half 24-17 Bobcats.
STU started the second half off sloppy with a fumble and an interception in their first two drives. The Bobcats defense held the Seahawks to zero point however. With little of anything the Bobcats would set up to punt. The snap would go through Braden Dick's hands and would give the Seahawks ideal field position at the STU 4 yard line. Shea Spencer would complete a pass to make tie it up with a made extra point 24-24.
Getting the ball back the Bobcats offense picked up a couple first downs, but would go for it on fourth and short and not reach the mark. After the big stop Keiser would take advantage and Spencer would hit Arnold over the middle in a blown coverage for a 75 yard score to take the lead 30-24. The Seahawks would miss the extra point. After a drive by the Bobcats and then the Seahawks both went nowhere, the Bobcats would get the ball back with two and a half minutes remaining. Tyler Thomas found freshman receiver Hervin Louis over the middle for a 57-yard touchdown. A made extra point the Bobcats went up 31-30 with two minutes remaining.
The STU kickoff would fall just short of a touchback and land in Wendol Philord's hands. Philord would return the kickoff 75 –yards all the way to the STU 20-yard line. With great field position Burgess would rush on the third play of the drive for the touchdown giving Keiser the lead. After a Sidney Porter interception on the two point conversion try the Seahawks led 36-31. With 55 seconds left Thomas was intercepted and Keiser finished in victory formation.
