U.S. News & World Report ranked Barry University among the nation’s top universities that enroll and graduate disadvantaged students.
U.S. News and World Report’s 2022-23 Best College Guide ranked Barry University No. 56 among national universities for its successes in enrolling and graduating disadvantaged students that receive Pell Grants.
“The rankings reflect our commitment to providing access to college for students from all backgrounds and helping them succeed,” Barry University President Mike Allen said. “Many of our students are the first in their families to attend college. It’s a source of pride for us to empower them with knowledge and a college degree that will ultimately improve their lives.”
Barry moved up in the social mobility ranking from last year, when the university was ranked No. 78.
The rankings speak to the quality of a Barry education and our core values of transforming the lives of students with learning that leads to knowledge and truth, reflection that leads to informed action, and a commitment to social justice that leads to collaborative service,” Allen said.
Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics, according to U.S. News. Many students receiving Pell Grants come from households that earn less than $50,000 per year.
