Ferradaz Notches Five Points to Lead Bobcats Past V-Hawks in 2022 Opener

The receiving votes St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team cruised past Viterbo University, 3-0, in the 2022 season opener on Sunday evening from the Bobcat Turf Field. This is the second straight year the Bobcats win on opening day via a shutout.

Game Recap

  • Eight of the 11 starters were returners for the Bobcats.
  • Penaranda, a freshmen keeper, earned her first start in the net collecting her. first career win and a shutout.
  • Leslie De León helped get the team on the board with a though ball to Miranda Ferradaz in the six-yard box to score the first goal of the season in the 17th minute.
  • Ferradaz snuck a goal in the 44th minute as Sarolta Oppelland worker her way down the sideline to get a chipped ball to the feet of Ferradaz who then battled the one-on-one to find the back of the net.
  • The points did not stop tthere as the junior midfielder took a corner kick and found the backside of the six-yard box where Karina Medina was waiting to strike a ball to the top right corner to make it 3-0 in the 61st minute.
  • The freshmen keeper, Penaranda, held down the net with an early save on a breakaway one-on-one to keep the game scoreless.
  • The veteran defensive line held their own only allowing four shots on goal with no corner kicks.
