No. 6 women's soccer was relentless in their 4-0 win on Tuesday over the Viterbo V-Hawks. Kyoka Koshijima stole the show for Keiser, netting three goals and adding an assist on the fourth goal scored by the Seahawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Keiser set the tone for the game early with heavy pressure through the first 15 minutes with six shots, four on goal.
- Ramona Kannady would break the tie at the 16th minute off of a corner set piece that Lauren Riley tapped to the back of the net where Kannday headed it in with ease.
- In the 33rd minute, Maja Lundman would fight off the V-Hawks keeper and draw her second penalty of the season.
- Kyoka Koshijima stepped up to the spot and buried it into the net to give KU the 2-0 lead.
- Less than two minutes later, Julia Forslund would find Lundman on a throw-in who touched it on to Koshijima who ripped the ball 30 yards into the far corner of the net and give Keiser a 3-0 lead.
- The Seahawks would hold onto their 3-0 lead going into the half allowing just one shot on goal.
- In the 68th minute, Maja Henriksson collected an attempted clear by the V-Hawks before sending a ball through the Viterbo defense and leaving Koshijima one-on-one with the keeper who could not stop the senior midfielder from extending the lead to 4-0.
- Keiser would continue to stay on the offensive half of the field, totaling 25 shots, 16 on goal.
- KU's defense would pitch their second shutout of the season, allowing just three shots on goal and winning 4-0.
GAME NOTES
- The Seahawks improved to 2-0 on the year and at home with the win.
- Five more players made their first appearance of the season as Ina Timmermann, Symantha Campos, Isadora Diniz, Anisah Ortiz-Peck, and Gabby Schlabach saw time on the pitch.
- Koshijima's hat trick was the first of her collegiate career and shot her up to the Sun Conference leaderboard.
- With her goal, Kannady is sitting safely in second on the Seahawks scoring sheet.
- Five different Seahawks tallied an assist on the day as Henriksson and Koshijima sit atop the Keiser leaderboard.
- Another quiet in goal for Grace McClellan as she handled all three shots fired at her with ease to earn her 16th solo shutout.
- For the first time in six games, the Keiser defense allowed no corners to its opposition on the day.
