School Board Awards Construction Contracts for Two GOB Projects Valued at $9.7 Million

At its regular monthly meeting, the Miami-Dade School Board awarded contracts to two construction companies to complete General Obligation Bond (GOB) projects at Pine Villa Elementary and Leisure City K-8 Center valued at approximately $9.7 million.

Leisure City K-8 Center – M.A.C. Construction, Inc. has been awarded the contract for a GOB-funded new P.E. shelter project at Leisure City K-8 Center. The facility is located on S.W. 288th Street in Homestead, bordering Biscayne Drive on the north. Built in 1960, with additions constructed afterwards, currently comprised of 14 permanent buildings situated on 8.6 acres of land and has a permanent capacity of 1,214 student stations.

The scope of work includes a new physical education shelter, covered walkways, resurfacing and restriping basketball courts, and replacement of the playgrounds. Campus-wide installation of a new fire alarm system, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the new Energy Management System, impact resistant windows and doors, and exterior painting.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 13.31 percent
Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 18.84 percent

Total project allocation - $6.7 million                                                          Completion – April 2024

Pine Villa Elementary - Veitia Padron Incorporated (VPI) has been awarded the contract for the GOB-funded renovations project at Pine Villa Elementary. Built in 1958, the school is in southwest Miami, bordered on the north by Arthur & Polly Mays Conservatory of the Arts and on the south by Old Cutler Road.

The existing school is currently comprised of 18 permanent buildings on 11 acres with 834 student stations. The proposed scope of work for this project includes campus-wide exterior painting, new HVAC and impact-resistant windows in both Buildings 1 and 3. Also included are new ADA-compliant student service centers in Buildings 1 and 2.

Total sub-consultant S/MBE participation: 8.25 percent
Total sub-consultant M/WBE participation: 14.80 percent

Total project allocation - $2.9 million                                                         Completion – October 2023
