City Manager Appoints New Chief Resilience Officer

City Manager Art Noriega announces the appointment of Sonia Brubaker as new Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) for the City of Miami.

"I am pleased to welcome Ms. Sonia Brubaker as Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Miami," said City Manager Noriega. "We are privileged to have attracted a uniquely-qualified and experienced candidate to lead a growing team of resilience professionals in the new Department of Resilience and Sustainability established in the upcoming fiscal year."

Prior to her new position, Sonia served as the Director for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Water Infrastructure and Resiliency Finance Center. She spent the past 7 years building the organization by creating strategic planning goals, as well as developing and implementing initiatives. She also built a team that shares affordable financing opportunities with local governments to fund drinking water, wastewater, and storm water infrastructure investments that are sustainable and resilient.

“I am happy to be here in Miami serving the city’s residents," said CRO Brubaker. "I look forward to collaborating on solutions for our shared resilience and sustainability goals– being able to recover from environmental impacts quickly (resilience) and maintain high quality of life over the long term (sustainability) goes hand-in-hand with a strong economy here in the City of Miami."

CRO Brubaker has over 18 years of experience in the environmental sector. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy and Planning from Virginia Tech in 2004 and a Master of Environmental Management with an emphasis in Leadership from Duke University in 2014.
