Ewart and Former Buc Svensson to compete 2022 RBC Canadian Open

34

Thursday will be a historic day for the Barry Buccaneer men's golf team, with AJ Ewart and former Buccaneer Adam Svensson set to compete at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open.

Ewart will make his PGA Tour debut at the open, fresh off of winning the Jack Nicklaus DII National Player of the year award, with Buccaneer head coach Jimmy Stobs as his caddy . Ewart won seven tournaments this season at Barry, including four straight and six of his last seven. His seven victories, the last coming at the NCAA South Regional, are tied for a single-season school record, and he is the fastest Buccaneer to reach 10 career wins after beating Svensson's old record. The SSC Golfer of the Year finished the year ranked first in NCAA Division II with a 69.48 scoring average and also was first in the nation, across all divisions, for the GolfStat Cup as the best overall college golfer.

Svensson will take the tee after a solid 2021-2022 season on the tour which saw him log two top-ten finishes including finishing tied for 9th at the Honda Classic in South Florida. He also recorded two wins on the Korn Ferry Tour. As a Buccaneer, Svensson was an elite collegiate golfer, being named a PING first-team All-American in both his freshman and sophomore years with the Bucs winning the national championship in both seasons before he turned pro as a junior. Svensson was also named the Jack Nicklaus player of the year following his sophomore year.

Svensson will tee off at 1:59 pm with Andrew Novak and Braden Thornberry in his group. Ewart will tee off at 2:01 with Greyson Sigg and Seth Reeves in his group.

St. George's Golf and Country Club is playing host to the event for the first time since 2010. It's a par 70 track measuring just over 7,000 yards.

The pair of Bucs will be surrounded by a plethora of talent with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler making his first start since falling in a playoff to Sam Burns at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Burns, Justin Thomas, Cameron Smith, Tony Finau, and Matthew Fitzpatrick are just some of the other big names in the field.

The golf channel will be covering the event on Thursday and Friday with CBS picking things up over the weekend.
