St. Thomas University recently issued the following announcement.
STU’s student-athlete Inigo Miranda-Marina is the 2022 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Champion in the Men’s 200-yard breaststroke! Making him the VERY FIRST national champion student-athlete in St. Thomas University’s 60-year history!
The 19-year-old competed against 23 swimmers, from all over the country, to win the gold!
Inigo also placed as the National Runner-Up in the Men’s 100 Yard Breaststroke, Men’s 200/400 Medley Relay, Men’s 400 Freestyle Relay during NAIA’s Swimming & Diving National Championship!
The NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championship took place at the Columbus Aquatic Center in Columbus, GA from Mar 2 – 5, 2022. A total of 119 individual swimmers competed in the event at the NAIA level for the 2021-2022 season.
Inigo learned to swim in his hometown of Malaga, Spain, when he was four years old. He began his competitive swimming career at 10 years old.
The first-year student is enrolled in St. Thomas University’s Computer Science program and is expected to graduate in 2025.
