Barry University recently issued the following announcement.
On Thursday, March 31, 2022, Barry University will host TEDxBarryU at the David Brinkley Studio at Barry’s main campus in Miami Shores. This event, the second TEDx to be held at Barry, will feature talks from six thought leaders centered on the theme of Changing Communities with Art, Expression and Performance.
TEDxBarryU is a student-run initiative, and organizers selected the theme to give speakers the opportunity to showcase how their ideas and work have an impact. “Art is subjective and so much more than what ordinarily comes to mind, such as music, painting and photography,” shared Janeisha Cambridge ’22, TEDxBarryU organizer. “Many of the innovative processes that help us excel as a society today are due to creative expression that impact communities and this year’s speakers are a testament to that.”
Topics for talks will range from the unique ways immigrants shape society to entrepreneurship, music, kindness as a catalyst for changing lives and communities, and the juvenile justice system.
“The world needs more ideas that are exciting, that leave people curious and that’s exactly what we’re going to do with this event,” said Barry University Associate Professor of Human Resource Development Dr. Katya Matusevich, who serves on the TEDxBarryU Speaker’s Committee.
In line with Barry University’s commitment to community engagement and creating positive change, the event is designed to inspire action.
“This TEDx event will definitely inspire the audience into action by providing the audience with various unique ways as to how they can contribute to positive development of the community but most importantly the society on a whole,” said Nia O’Connor ’22, who also serves on the Speakers Committee.
