HOW IT HAPPENED

NSU starting pitcher Daniel Rivero needed just 63 pitches to work through five scoreless innings. The combination of Rivero on the mound and a relentless offensive attack proved lethal once again for the Sharks.

A Pastore infield single opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Another Pastore RBI in the second played a part in a three-run inning for the Sharks, as the lead grew to 4-0.

Consecutive singles up the middle by Michael Avendano and Nik Sanders, followed by a Gabriel Rivera hit-by-pitch, set the table for Alex Hernandez in the fourth, as the NSU backstop then emptied the bases with a three-run double down the left field line to extend the advantage to 7-0.

Frank tacked on another run with an infield hit to third before Pastore snuck a two-run blast down the left field line, pushing the margin to 10-0 in favor of the Sharks.

Sanders roped a run-scoring double into right center to continue the offensive onslaught in the fourth. Already ahead 11-0, Frank delivered an early exclamation point, connecting on a grand slam to run the lead all the way to 15-0 less than four complete innings into the ball game.

Jacob Bove, Matt Ornelas, Carlos Rey and Michael Dillon combined to allow just three hits in four innings of relief.

STATS OF THE NIGHT

  • Frank, Hernandez and Pastore combined to go 6-for-10 at the plate with two home runs, 12 RBI and five runs scored.
  • Rivero scattered three hits while walking one and striking out three to improve to 4-0 on the season.
  •  NSU has now outscored Davenport by a combined margin of 33-6 in the first two games of the series.
