Barry University issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

Kigel reveals the oppositions as Bucs look for fifth straight title

Avi Kigel continues to challenge the top-ranked women's tennis team as they look to defend their NCAA Division II National Championship this spring.

"We are very excited to start the Spring 2022 with a full schedule," Kigel said. "After last year having only eight dual matches for the spring season, we know that we need full schedule to be at our best level at the end of the year. We can't wait to be back at the ITA National Indoors try to win it again after having to miss last year. Competing for the SSC [Sunshine State Conference] tournament in Bradenton, Fla., and trying to win the tournament is one of our big goals for the year. Of course, [we are also] trying to win another NCAA National Championship for Barry University."

The Bucs face a majority of the other nine top-10 teams in NCAA Division II. Barry faces ninth-ranked Flagler twice, sixth-ranked Columbus State at least once, and will definitely play one of either fifth-ranked West Florida or fourth-ranked West Alabama at the ITA Indoor Nationals. In addition, the Bucs could also face second-ranked Indianapolis or third-ranked Central Oklahoma at the Indoors.

The always tough Sunshine State Conference slate features eight-ranked Nova Southeastern, 10th-ranked Saint Leo, #18 Lynn, #32 Rollins and #37 Florida Southern.

The Bucs also have dates with NAIA #2 ranked Keiser and NCAA Division I Valparaiso.

The Bucs have the bulk of their championship-winning lineup intact. Top player Deniz Khazan, who won the ITA Cup Fall Singles Championship, is ranked #1 in the country, heading into the spring. Two-time All-American Jil Engelmann also returns after playing at number two last season. Madeline Bosnjak missed the fall season, but should be back in the spring. Doubles team Daniela Farfan and Kim Moosbacher ended the fall ranked third nationally as a tandem, while Moosbacher is ranked 15th in singles.
