Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar of Florida’s 27th District has signed a bipartisan letter calling on Senate leaders to involve both House Republicans and Democrats in upcoming healthcare reform negotiations. The request comes ahead of a planned healthcare reform vote in December, with the goal of ensuring continued access to affordable care for patients.
“For any healthcare proposal aimed at lowering Americans’ healthcare costs while preserving access to quality care, bipartisan engagement is essential,” said Congresswoman Salazar. “That’s why I joined this bipartisan letter urging the Senate to include the House in these negotiations. In District 27, healthcare subsidies are not abstract policy, they are life-saving for thousands of families. They must be protected in every future healthcare debate.”
Salazar has previously supported measures to maintain and extend subsidies that help her constituents afford health coverage. She cosponsored H.R. 5145, known as the Bipartisan Premium Tax Credit Extension Act, which would continue these subsidies for another year.
The enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act are set to expire soon. If not extended, families who depend on them could see their costs rise significantly. According to Salazar’s office, this would have immediate negative effects on residents of District 27.
Salazar stated she will keep working to protect these subsidies and shield her constituents from increasing healthcare expenses.
