Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida, has publicly expressed her support for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans in a series of social media posts on March 30, 2026.
In one post, Salazar stated: “Until Venezuela reaches real stability and a true democratic transition, Venezuelans deserve certainty, not uncertainty. TPS allows them to stay, work, and move forward safely here while their country rebuilds. That’s why I signed the Venezuelan TPS discharge petition, to” (posted March 30, 2026).
She reiterated her message in Spanish: “Hasta que Venezuela tenga estabilidad real y una transición democrática, los venezolanos merecen certeza, no incertidumbre. El TPS les da la oportunidad de quedarse, trabajar y salir adelante con seguridad. Por eso firmé la petición: para proteger ese alivio y que el Congreso” (posted March 30, 2026).
Temporary Protected Status is a designation by the U.S. government that permits individuals from certain countries experiencing ongoing armed conflict or environmental disaster to remain and work legally in the United States while conditions in their home country remain unsafe.
Venezuela has experienced significant political and economic instability over recent years, leading to large numbers of its citizens seeking refuge abroad.
