Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, posted a series of messages on October 9, 2025, addressing both domestic and international developments. Her statements focused on government funding issues affecting U.S. troops and recent progress regarding the release of hostages in a foreign conflict.

In her first post on October 9, Salazar called for action to end a federal government shutdown and ensure military personnel receive timely compensation. She wrote, “Our troops should never be caught in the middle of Washington’s political games. It’s time to end the gridlock and reopen the government. Let’s pass a clean, bipartisan funding bill and make sure our service members get paid, on time and in full.”

Later that day, Salazar commented on an international agreement that resulted in the release of hostages. In her English-language post at 18:05 UTC, she stated, “The hostages are coming home! For generations, leaders made promises, President Trump delivered. His leadership secured a historic agreement that could bring lasting peace and stability to the region. The release of all hostages is a decisive step toward restoring peace in the”.

Shortly after, she reiterated her message in Spanish: “¡Los rehenes finalmente están regresando a casa! Durante décadas, muchos líderes hicieron promesas, pero el presidente Trump cumplió. Gracias a su firme liderazgo, se alcanzó un acuerdo histórico que puede traer paz y estabilidad duraderas a la región. La liberación de todos los”.

Government shutdowns have previously led to disruptions in federal services and delayed pay for service members, with lawmakers often debating funding bills along partisan lines. The reference to President Trump’s role in securing the release of hostages alludes to ongoing diplomatic efforts during his administration aimed at resolving international conflicts through negotiated agreements.
