Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar announced on May 14 her support for several pro-law enforcement measures in Congress during National Police Week. Salazar, who represents Florida’s 27th Congressional District, said she remains committed to supporting the men and women who protect American communities.
Salazar said that honoring law enforcement officers is important as they “show up every single day to protect our communities, often in the toughest and most dangerous moments.” She added, “In South Florida, we understand the importance of backing the men and women who keep our neighborhoods safe. That is why I will always fight to ensure they have the support, resources, and respect they deserve.”
During National Police Week, Salazar supported three legislative items: the Keeping Violent Offenders Off Our Streets Act (H.R. 6260), which aims to increase accountability around bail funds connected to violent offenders; the Cashless Bail Reporting Act (H.R. 5625), requiring the Department of Justice to publicly identify jurisdictions using cashless bail systems; and H.Con.Res. 96, a resolution recognizing law enforcement officers’ service across the United States.
Last week, Salazar hosted a First Responder Recognition Ceremony honoring police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and emergency personnel serving Florida’s 27th District.
Salazar also highlighted her previous efforts for local law enforcement in South Florida. These include securing $2.1 million for new marked police cruisers and $1.25 million for Operation Community Shield technology upgrades; obtaining $3.75 million for updated computing systems at Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office; supporting legislation such as the Empowering Law Enforcement to Fight Sex Trafficking Demand Act; backing expanded grant opportunities through the Invest to Protect Act; and advocating for homeownership support via the HELPER Act.
Salazar said she will continue working on public safety initiatives that benefit both law enforcement agencies and families in her district.
