Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, published several posts on her Twitter account on February 19 and 20, 2026. The posts recognized the anniversary of the United States Coast Guard Reserve and commented on recent political developments in Venezuela.
On February 19, Salazar marked a milestone for a key military reserve component, stating: “Happy 85th Anniversary to the United States Coast Guard Reserve! For 85 years, the brave men and women of the Reserve have stood ready to safeguard our shores, strengthen our maritime security, and answer the call whenever our nation needs them. Today we honor their service,”.
She reiterated this message in Spanish in a separate post on the same day: “¡Feliz 85.º aniversario a la Reserva de la Guardia Costera de los Estados Unidos! Durante 85 años, los valientes hombres y mujeres de la Reserva han estado siempre listos para proteger nuestras costas, fortalecer nuestra seguridad marítima y responder al llamado cuando la nación”.
On February 20, Salazar addressed events in Venezuela involving Juan Pablo Guanipa.
The United States Coast Guard Reserve was established in February 1941 as an integral part of the nation’s maritime defense system. Its members support both peacetime operations and national emergencies through diverse missions including search and rescue and port security.
Juan Pablo Guanipa is a Venezuelan opposition politician who has faced multiple arrests by authorities under President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The issue of political prisoners remains central to international criticism of Venezuela’s human rights record.
