Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who represents Florida’s 27th congressional district, has recently addressed topics ranging from international trade to regional security and youth engagement in technology through a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On September 4, 2025, Salazar expressed appreciation for efforts to strengthen economic ties between the Dominican Republic and Miami-Dade County. She wrote, “Thank you to Pedro Ballestar and the Dominican Intl Business & Tourism Chamber for organizing a DR-Miami Dade investment forum at @RDENMiami_ yesterday. is one of the USA’s top 5 trading partners in our hemisphere and the #3 trading partner to Miami. I am always working on”.
The following day, Salazar turned her attention to foreign policy concerns regarding Venezuela. In a post dated September 5, 2025, she stated, “The regime of Nicolás Maduro is a narcoterrorist cartel that threatens stability in our own hemisphere. The days of turning a blind eye, enabling corruption, and not holding him accountable are over.”
Later that same day, Salazar encouraged student participation in technology innovation by promoting an annual competition. She posted on September 5, 2025: ” Calling all student coders in Fl-27! Do you have an app idea that could change the world? Be the next big thing? Then submit your entry to my office for this year’s Congressional App Challenge by October 30! Salazar’s district includes much of Miami-Dade County—a region with strong commercial connections to Latin America and the Caribbean. According to U.S. government data, the Dominican Republic consistently ranks among the United States’ leading trading partners in the Western Hemisphere (https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/dominican-republic). The annual Congressional App Challenge aims to foster STEM skills among students nationwide by encouraging them to develop original software applications.
Her remarks about Venezuela reflect ongoing bipartisan concerns within Congress regarding human rights abuses and criminal activity linked to Nicolás Maduro’s government.
