Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, shared updates on her official X account on March 18, 2026, highlighting engagement with students and the Venezuelan community in her district.

In a post from March 18, Salazar described an encounter with local students: “Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming the students of La Salle High School Miami from District 27 to Capitol Hill! Their curiosity and thoughtful questions made me proud of our district and hopeful for our country. This is what the future of America looks like, engaged,” she wrote.

Both posts referred to her meeting with students from La Salle High School Miami.

Later that day, Salazar addressed concerns within the Venezuelan community in her district regarding investment protections for rebuilding Venezuela after Nicolás Maduro’s government: “Hundreds of Venezuelans in my district are ready to help rebuild their country after Maduro. They’re ready to restore Venezuela, but they need trust that their investments will be protected. That’s why I asked EXIM Bank President John Jovanovic today: how do we ensure America”.

Florida’s 27th congressional district includes parts of Miami-Dade County and has a significant population with ties to Latin America, including many Venezuelan immigrants and exiles who have settled in South Florida seeking stability and opportunities after fleeing political turmoil in their home country.

The Export-Import Bank (EXIM) is a federal agency tasked with supporting American exports through financing and insurance programs. Its involvement is often sought by members of Congress representing districts with large immigrant or expatriate communities interested in economic development abroad.
