Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, addressed two major issues in a series of tweets posted on March 19, 2026: disruptions at U.S. airports and human rights abuses in Iran.
In her first tweet, Salazar commented on ongoing difficulties at airports across the United States. She wrote, “Another day of chaos at America’s airports. Delays. Long wait times. TSA workers aren’t getting paid and morale is collapsing. They still show up to protect us, while Democrats fail to show up for them.” (March 19, 2026). She reiterated this message in Spanish shortly after: “Otro día de caos en los aeropuertos de Estados Unidos. Retrasos. Filas interminables. Los agentes de TSA siguen trabajando sin recibir pago, y la moral está por el piso. Aun así, se presentan todos los días para protegernos — mientras los demócratas les fallan.” (March 19, 2026).
Later that morning, Salazar turned her attention to international affairs with a statement regarding events in Iran: “A 19-year-old national wrestling champion executed in Iran. Not for a crime, but for speaking out. For decades, the Iranian regime has waged a relentless campaign against its own people: hanging, silencing, and erasing thousands. Young men and women. Students. Athletes. Voices” (March 19, 2026).
Her comments about airport delays reflect broader concerns over federal funding disputes that have previously led to interruptions in pay for Transportation Security Administration workers during government shutdowns or budget impasses.
On the subject of Iran’s treatment of dissidents and athletes, international organizations have documented patterns of executions and suppression targeting young activists and sports figures who criticize government policies or participate in protests.
Salazar represents a South Florida district with a significant population concerned about both domestic security matters and international human rights issues.
