Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, recently shared reflections on issues important to her constituents through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
On May 22, 2026, Salazar highlighted a discussion involving herself, Lara Trump, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Rep. Carlos Gimenez regarding ongoing events in Cuba and the experiences of the Cuban exile community. She wrote, “A powerful conversation with @LaraLeaTrump alongside @MarioDB and @RepCarlos about this historic moment for Cuba, the exile community we are proud to represent, and why the fight for freedom on the island remains deeply personal for so many families across our community.” On the same day, she posted a similar message in Spanish: “Una poderosa conversación con @LaraLeaTrump junto a @MarioDB y @RepCarlos sobre este momento histórico para Cuba, la comunidad del exilio que tenemos el orgullo de representar y por qué la lucha por la libertad en la isla sigue siendo algo profundamente personal para tantas”.
On May 25, 2026, Salazar commemorated Memorial Day by honoring those who served in the U.S. military. She stated, “This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy will never be forgotten. May God bless our heroes, their families, and the United States of America.”
Salazar represents an area that includes many Cuban-Americans and members of the exile community in Miami. Issues related to Cuba remain central to her legislative agenda and public statements. Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed annually in late May to honor U.S. military personnel who have died in service.
