Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account on April 9, 2026, focusing primarily on immigration policy and community engagement.

In one post, Salazar addressed the contentious nature of immigration in the United States. She wrote: “Immigration brings out strong passions. Good. It should. Because it affects every single American.

But before echoing the noise, look at the facts.

The Dignity Act is clear:
NO path to citizenship.
NO federal benefits.
Criminals get deported- NO MERCY.

Instead, you come” (April 9, 2026).

Later that day, she replied to an inquiry about government support for immigrants under the proposed legislation. Salazar stated: “Kat – they receive ZERO federal benefits or entitlements. None.

No housing.
No food stamps.
No Social Security.

And they must purchase their own health insurance so they are not a burden on hospitals or ERs.

At the same time, they pay full taxes. They contribute to the system,” (April 9, 2026).

In another message posted that evening, Salazar highlighted local outreach efforts in her district by expressing appreciation for community participation in a recent event: “Great turnout today!!

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Passport Fair and to our partners at the State Department and local municipalities who made it happen.

This is what delivering for the South Florida community looks like: real services, real results.

Thank you,” (April 9, 2026).

The Dignity Act referenced by Salazar has been part of ongoing debates in Congress over comprehensive immigration reform. The act proposes measures intended to address undocumented immigrants already living in the country without offering them a pathway to citizenship or access to federal welfare programs while emphasizing enforcement against criminal activity among undocumented populations.
