Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, criticized fellow lawmakers for their recent trip to Cuba and defended her proposed immigration legislation in a series of posts on April 7 and 8, 2026.
On April 7, Salazar commented on social media about two members of Congress visiting Cuba, stating: “Shameful. Two Members of Congress traveling to Cuba only to echo the dictatorship’s propaganda. Let’s be clear: the United States is not responsible for Cuba’s collapse. Decades of failed, corrupt communist policies are. Instead of photo ops, they should be working with us to https://t.co/8u1e5npEeP”.
Later that day, she addressed criticism regarding the DIGNITY Act, an immigration bill she sponsors: “READ. THE. BILL. BEFORE. YOU. OPEN. YOUR. MOUTH.
Calling the DIGNITY Act “amnesty” isn’t just wrong. It’s a deliberate distortion and it exposes just how little you know about the bill.
This is enforcement first: zero tolerance for criminals, permanent border security, and https://t.co/mWYBWEbup0“.
Continuing her defense on April 8, Salazar posted: “2/ Americans want criminals deported. So do I.
The DIGNITY Act removes ALL criminal illegal aliens and recent arrivals, and it shuts down future illegal immigration once and for all.”
Salazar represents Florida’s 27th congressional district and has been active in shaping U.S.-Cuba policy as well as immigration reform efforts in Congress.
