Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, made several public statements on January 27, 2026, addressing international relations and immigration policy.

In one post from that day, Salazar expressed support for Estonia’s actions against the Cuban government and its foreign minister: “I applaud Estonia and Foreign Minister Tsahnka for taking a stand against the Cuban regime and hopefully inspiring the entire EU next.

Cuba wrote the handbook on oppression and we know evil feeds evil. They empower enemies of the good, like Russia, with impunity and the EU can” (January 27, 2026). This statement reflects ongoing criticism of Cuba’s government by some U.S. lawmakers who argue that Cuba maintains close ties with Russia and has a history of human rights abuses.

A subsequent tweet shared only a link: “https://t.co/0WiaIqnmpU” (January 27, 2026).

Later that evening, Salazar addressed domestic policy issues by thanking former Speaker Newt Gingrich for his support of immigration reform legislation: “Thank you @newtgingrich for being a voice of reason and for supporting the Dignity Act (HR 4393) as the only serious, commonsense immigration solution this moment demands.

The path forward is clear, now we need the will to act. https://t.co/1wxrRfPPpm” (January 27, 2026). The Dignity Act (HR 4393) is an immigration bill introduced in Congress aiming to provide legal status to undocumented immigrants while strengthening border security measures.

The European Union has previously debated its stance toward both Cuba and Russia amid heightened tensions in Eastern Europe. Estonia has taken positions critical of authoritarian regimes in recent years as part of its broader foreign policy goals within NATO and the EU.

Salazar’s remarks reflect her ongoing advocacy for tougher policies toward governments she describes as oppressive and her involvement in legislative efforts on U.S. immigration reform.
