Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, has commented on the capture and arraignment of Nicolás Maduro through a series of posts on her official X account.
On January 4, 2026, Salazar wrote: “I joined Lara Trump on My View to discuss America’s decisive capture of narco-terrorist Nicolás Maduro—who brutalized his own people, terrorized our hemisphere, and will now finally face justice. Full interview here: https://t.co/wFEeq2EDTf”
The following day, as news broke about Maduro’s court appearance, Salazar posted: “Today, as Nicolás Maduro is arraigned in court, his reign of terror comes to an end. The man who brutalized his people and poisoned our streets is now answering to justice. Justice is underway and our hemisphere is more secure because of it.” This statement was followed by a similar message in Spanish: “Hoy, Nicolás Maduro rinde cuentas ante la justicia. Se acabó la impunidad. Quien aplastó a su pueblo y envenenó nuestras calles responde por sus crímenes. La justicia avanza y nuestro hemisferio es más seguro.” Both posts were published on January 5, 2026.
Nicolás Maduro served as the President of Venezuela from 2013 until his reported capture in early 2026. His administration faced widespread allegations of human rights abuses and corruption during its tenure.
