Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted a series of statements on May 20, 2026, addressing developments regarding Cuba and the actions taken against Raúl Castro.
In her first post at 17:05 UTC, Salazar announced an upcoming appearance on Fox News with Rep. Carlos Gimenez to discuss recent events in Cuba. She wrote, ” Tune in! I’m about to go live on @FoxNews with @RepCarlos to discuss Cuba and what may become a historic turning point for freedom in the Western Hemisphere.”
Later that day at 17:47 UTC, Salazar commented on accountability measures directed at Raúl Castro. She stated, “Raúl Castro thought he would die without ever facing justice. Instead, justice is finally knocking at his door. I commend the Trump Administration for taking steps to hold this ruthless dictator accountable for the innocent blood on his hand. For decades, he operated with total”.
Shortly after, she reiterated her remarks in Spanish at 17:47 UTC: “Raúl Castro creyó que moriría sin rendir cuentas por sus crímenes. Pero la justicia finalmente está tocando a su puerta. Aplaudo a la Administración Trump por finalmente enfrentar a este dictador sanguinario con las manos manchadas de sangre inocente. Durante décadas, operó”.
The comments come amid ongoing scrutiny of Cuba’s government and its leadership by U.S. lawmakers who have long criticized human rights abuses under Raúl Castro’s rule.
