Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, used her social media accounts this week to highlight local employment opportunities and voice concerns about the situation in Cuba.
On May 21, Salazar announced an upcoming job fair in Miami, stating: ” Falta menos de UNA SEMANA. The event is aimed at connecting residents with over sixty employers from various sectors including government and technology.
Later that day, Salazar shared her participation in a live television segment focused on Cuba: ” About to go live on @CNN with @Boris_Sanchez to discuss Cuba and why this is a critical moment for our hemisphere.” (May 21, 2026).
The following morning, she commented on the political climate in Cuba: “Dictatorships know how to manufacture crowds. They know how to pressure workers, force attendance, and turn propaganda into spectacle. But no amount of propaganda can hide reality. At a time when Cuba is facing blackouts, food shortages, fuel scarcity, and growing desperation,” (May 22, 2026).
Salazar has frequently addressed issues affecting South Florida’s Cuban-American community as well as broader U.S.-Cuba relations. She represents a district that includes much of Miami—a city with deep ties to the Cuban exile population.
