Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Representative from Florida’s 27th congressional district, posted several updates on her Twitter account in early January 2026. Her tweets addressed the situation in Iran and expressed support for the University of Miami football team.
On January 7, 2026, Salazar highlighted unrest in Iran, stating: “In 9 days, the Radical Islamic Regime has arrested over 1,200 people, killed at least 29 and injured at least 64. In 257 locations across 88 cities and 27 provinces, the people of Iran are demanding freedom from the Ayatollah and as usual, the regime silences, tortures and https://t.co/CopHWbJLNn”.
The following day, Salazar shifted focus to sports by supporting the University of Miami football team ahead of their appearance at the Fiesta Bowl: “All eyes on the @canesfootball tonight at the Fiesta Bowl. Play fast, play with pride. Miami is behind you. Go Canes! https://t.co/2znuFIwYof” (January 8, 2026).
Salazar has been an active voice on international human rights issues and local community matters as part of her role representing South Florida.
