Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th District, highlighted several issues affecting her Miami constituents in a series of tweets posted on September 9, 2025.
In her first post, Salazar expressed support for federal efforts to address the housing crisis. She wrote, “Excited about the @HUDgov Innovative Housing Showcase on the National Mall this week! Homeownership in Miami is increasingly out of reach and with a deepening housing crisis, bold solutions are needed now more than ever. Addressing foreign policy concerns later that day, Salazar referenced the experience of Miami’s Venezuelan exile community and voiced support for actions against Nicolás Maduro’s regime. She stated, “The people of Miami carry the deep scars of communism in their hearts. Just ask our Venezuelan exile community, forced to flee their homeland after thugs like Maduro stole their freedom. Later in the afternoon, Salazar described her participation in a House Financial Services Committee hearing where she questioned FinCEN Director Andrea Gacki about companies potentially violating U.S. sanctions against Cuba. Salazar has consistently advocated for policies addressing affordable housing challenges in South Florida and has taken a firm stance against authoritarian regimes in Latin America. Her district includes significant populations affected by both issues.
