Rep. María Elvira Salazar, who represents Florida’s 27th congressional district, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and recent federal funding for her district in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on October 14 and 15, 2025.
On October 14, 2025, Salazar commented on the impact of the government shutdown, now in its fourteenth day. She wrote, “It’s day 14 of the government shutdown, and Americans are paying the price for Washington’s dysfunction. I voted to keep the government open because families deserve stability, not political games. It’s time for my Democratic colleagues to set politics aside and help us reopen”.
On October 15, 2025, Salazar highlighted federal funding secured for her district. She stated, “Last year I secured over $23 million for my district, Florida’s 27th, for various improvement projects including for infrastructure, environmental protections and much more! This money is helping make critical changes including: $3 million to the Miami-Dade County Seaport”.
The ongoing government shutdown in October 2025 marks one of several in recent U.S. history where federal agencies have ceased non-essential operations due to a lapse in appropriations. During such periods, essential services continue, but many government employees face furloughs and public services may be disrupted. Congressional negotiations to end shutdowns often involve disputes over federal spending and policy priorities.
Salazar’s remarks reflect her voting record and ongoing efforts to secure federal resources for her constituents in Miami and surrounding areas.
