Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s 27th congressional district, has recently used her social media platform to comment on political developments in Venezuela and Cuba, as well as to mark a significant Christian observance.
On March 28, 2026, Salazar commented on recent events in Venezuela: “A real sign of movement in Venezuela. Every space the opposition takes back brings the country closer to restoring democracy and the will of its people. Encouraging, yes, but this is just the beginning. The Venezuelan people are not backing down. Neither are we.”
The following day, March 29, she marked Palm Sunday with a bilingual message reflecting on faith and hope: “Palm Sunday reminds us: Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. A time for faith, reflection, and renewed hope. Blessed Palm Sunday. – – – El Domingo de Ramos nos recuerda: Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor. Un momento de fe, reflexión y esperanza.”
On March 30, Salazar addressed concerns regarding Jonathan Muir’s detention by Cuban authorities: “Jonathan Muir sigue secuestrado por el régimen cubano. Encerrado, amenazado, sin atención médica y sometido a tortura psicológica… por atreverse a alzar la voz. Cuba no está en silencio. La está silenciando a la fuerza un régimen que se sostiene sembrando miedo, quebrando”.
These statements come amid ongoing scrutiny of political repression in Cuba and continued instability in Venezuela following years of economic crisis and contested governance.
