Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Representative from Florida, posted a series of tweets on May 22, 2026, addressing issues in Cuba and legislative efforts regarding artificial intelligence.

In a tweet published at 12:48 p.m. UTC, Salazar commented on the political situation in Cuba: “Las dictaduras saben fabricar multitudes. Saben presionar trabajadores, obligar asistencia y convertir la propaganda en espectáculo.

Pero ninguna marcha puede tapar la verdad.

Mientras Cuba vive apagones, hambre, falta de combustible y un pueblo agotado por décadas de miseria,” she wrote.

Later that day at 1:38 p.m. UTC, Salazar shared another post containing only a link: “https://t.co/bW44Z7vE4r”.

At the same time, she addressed the rapid development of artificial intelligence and legislative responses in the United States: “AI is moving fast, but our laws cannot fall behind.

That is why I’m proud to work alongside @RepDean , @MarshaBlackburn, and @ChrisCoons on the bipartisan NO FAKES Act to protect creators, artists, and everyday Americans from unauthorized digital replicas and online abuse.”

The NO FAKES Act referenced by Salazar is bipartisan legislation introduced in Congress aimed at protecting individuals from unauthorized digital replicas generated by artificial intelligence. The bill seeks to address concerns about misuse of AI technologies for creating deepfakes or impersonations without consent by establishing legal protections for creators and ordinary citizens.

Cuba has faced ongoing economic challenges including power outages (apagones), food shortages (hambre), fuel scarcity (falta de combustible), and widespread poverty over several decades. These conditions have contributed to public dissatisfaction with the government.
