Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted a series of tweets on April 9 and 10, 2026, addressing both local community engagement and her stance on political developments in Cuba.
On April 9, Salazar expressed gratitude for the success of a recent community event, stating: “¡ÉXITO TOTAL! Gracias a todos los que se acercaron a nuestra Feria de Pasaportes, al Departamento de Estado y los municipios locales que lo hicieron posible. Así se le cumple a nuestra comunidad: servicios reales, resultados concretos. ¡Seguimos trabajando! Gracias,” she wrote.
Later that day and into April 10, Salazar shifted focus to Cuban politics. In an English-language tweet posted at 00:16 UTC on April 10, she commented on the legitimacy of Cuba’s leadership: “He is NOT a president. He is a dictator handpicked by the Castro regime. But we’ve seen this before. Maduro played the same game and ended up in a jail cell. This propaganda doesn’t work anymore and it’s proof that President Trump’s maximum pressure is working. The regime is”.
In another tweet at 01:14 UTC on April 10, Salazar addressed Medea Benjamin—an activist known for her views on U.S.-Cuba relations—and criticized her support for the Cuban government: “Medea, you defend a murderous dictatorship from the comfort of luxury, handing out cookies to innocent children for propaganda videos while real Cubans suffer hunger, blackouts, prison, and death for demanding freedom. Díaz-Canel is not a president, he is the puppet of a”.
Salazar has been vocal about her opposition to the Cuban government and its leaders in previous statements as well as legislative actions in Congress.
