Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted several messages on her Twitter account addressing recent political developments in Colombia and the start of hurricane season in South Florida.
Later that day, she called for unity among right-wing Colombians to oppose leftist movements in the country. The following day, Salazar addressed constituents in South Florida regarding hurricane preparedness as the official season began. On June 1, 2026, she posted: “Hurricane Season officially begins today. For South Floridians, preparedness isn’t optional. We’ve seen firsthand the impact storms can have on our homes, our businesses, and our communities. The best time to prepare is before a storm is in the forecast. Salazar has been vocal about both Latin American politics and disaster readiness throughout her tenure as a representative for Miami’s diverse population.
