Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, announced the enactment of her IDB Capital Increase Act in a series of posts on February 18, 2026. The law marks the twelfth bill authored and passed by Salazar.
In her first post, Salazar stated, “Another major win for America and our hemisphere! My IDB Capital Increase Act is now law, the 12th bill I’ve authored and helped enact, delivering real results for our communities. It strengthens U.S. leadership, opens doors for American businesses, and supports growth across” (February 18, 2026).
She also shared a message in Spanish: “¡Otra gran victoria para Estados Unidos y nuestro hemisferio! Mi Ley de Aumento de Capital del BID ya fue promulgada, el duodécimo proyecto que he presentado y ayudado a sacar adelante, dando resultados reales para nuestras comunidades. Fortalece el liderazgo de Estados Unidos,” (February 18, 2026).
Later that day, Salazar reiterated her commitment to South Florida constituents: “I came to Congress to fight for South Florida and make sure our community gets its fair share. This year, we delivered real investments for: ✓ Safer streets ✓ Flood protection ✓ Stronger infrastructure ✓ Support for seniors and families I’ll keep fighting to make sure” (February 18, 2026).
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is an international financial institution focused on economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean. By supporting an increase in U.S. capital investment in the IDB through this legislation, Rep. Salazar aims to bolster American influence within the region while providing new opportunities for domestic businesses.
