Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, posted a series of tweets on May 27, 2026, highlighting both historical and current events relevant to her constituents.
In a tweet published at 01:03 UTC, Salazar reflected on the humanitarian efforts of Brothers to the Rescue in the 1990s and criticized the Cuban government’s response. She wrote, “In the 90s, Brothers to the Rescue was a humanitarian group that searched for Cuban rafters stranded at sea after fleeing the island in homemade boats. Instead of protecting human life, the Castro regime targeted the very people trying to save it. A reminder of the cruelty and https://t.co/kWX6sAMSYq”.
Later that day at 14:02 UTC, Salazar shared updates about her annual job fair held at Miami Dade College.
She also posted an English-language update regarding the same event: “HAPPENING NOW My Annual Job Fair is underway at Miami Dade College. Employers are here, resumes are flowing in, and South Floridians are already connecting with new opportunities. If you’re looking for a job or thinking about your next move, stop by and bring your resume.”.
Brothers to the Rescue was founded in 1991 by Cuban exiles in Miami as a volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing rafters escaping Cuba by sea during periods of increased migration from Cuba to Florida throughout the decade.
Miami Dade College regularly hosts community events such as job fairs aimed at connecting local employers with job seekers from across South Florida.
