Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, addressed several issues in a series of posts on May 1, 2026, ranging from bipartisan unity and national heritage to mental health awareness and U.S. national security concerns regarding Cuba.
On May 1, Salazar highlighted her participation in a major Congressional initiative by stating, ” Honored to join more than 400 Members of Congress in the @America250 Caucus, now the largest bipartisan caucus ever recorded, as we approach 250 years as a nation. This is about more than our history. It’s about preserving the freedoms and opportunities that define America”. The America250 Caucus was formed to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding and includes broad bipartisan membership.
Later that day, Salazar turned attention to public health matters with another post: “May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder that too many Americans are still facing mental health challenges in silence, without the support they need. That’s why this has been a priority for me. I’ve worked to strengthen mental health and addiction services by supporting”. Mental Health Awareness Month is observed annually each May across the United States to highlight mental health issues and advocate for expanded access to care.
In her final tweet of the day, Salazar commented on foreign policy and national security concerns related to Cuba: “The era of looking the other way is over. For decades, the Cuban regime has aligned itself with America’s enemies, rolling out the red carpet for hostile actors and strengthening ties with regimes like Iran. This is not speculation. It is a national security reality just 90”. The statement reflects longstanding tensions between Washington and Havana over Cuba’s alliances with adversarial governments such as Iran.
Salazar represents Florida’s 27th congressional district in Miami-Dade County—a region home to many Cuban-Americans—and has frequently advocated for policies addressing both domestic priorities such as healthcare access and international concerns regarding U.S.-Cuba relations.
