Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted a series of statements on her X (formerly Twitter) account on February 22 and 23, 2026, addressing the political situation in Cuba and the case of Williams Dávila.
On February 22, Salazar appeared with Rep. Carlos Giménez on Al Punto Florida to discuss their views regarding the Cuban government. In her post she stated: “Hoy en @AlPuntoFL junto a @RepCarlos le dijimos las cosas claras a Ambrosio Hernández:
The following day, Salazar commented on the nature of conditional freedom for political prisoners in Latin America by referencing Williams Dávila’s situation.
Salazar also published an English-language version of her statement shortly after: “Let’s be clear: conditional freedom is NOT freedom, it’s control.
The case of Williams Dávila proves there is no real political amnesty when those who are supposedly “freed” remain silenced, restricted, and treated like inmates in their own country.
Free them all, completely” (February 23, 2026).
Salazar has been vocal about U.S.-Cuba policy and human rights issues affecting Latin American dissidents. Her comments come amid ongoing debates over how international actors should respond to reports of repression and conditional releases of political prisoners in countries such as Cuba and Venezuela.
