Rep. María Elvira Salazar, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 27th district, posted a series of tweets on March 17, 2026, addressing legislative efforts and the political situation in Cuba.

In her first tweet at 19:44 UTC, Salazar highlighted her support for immigration reform through specific legislation: “Ignoring that reality only leads to failure. The DIGNITY Act is the ONLY bill in Congress that delivers both: law and order, and a solution grounded in reality.”

A few minutes later at 19:47 UTC, she noted growing support for the measure within Congress and among various organizations: “We already have 40 bipartisan members of Congress on board and 75+ stakeholder endorsements. It’s time to get this done! https://t.co/BwItqzVr7v”

Later that evening at 20:41 UTC, Salazar commented on recent developments in Cuba by referencing remarks from Senator Marco Rubio and criticizing the Cuban government’s reliance on foreign aid. She stated: “.@SecRubio hit the nail on the head. Havana can’t stand on its own. It survives on foreign lifelines. First the Soviets, then Venezuela. Now both are gone. The Cuban people have lost their fear, and the world is seeing the regime for what it truly is: bankrupt, repressive, and https://t.co/uzovg1UzXj”

The DIGNITY Act referenced by Rep. Salazar proposes comprehensive immigration reforms with an emphasis on border security as well as legal pathways for undocumented immigrants living in the United States.

Her comments regarding Cuba reflect longstanding tensions between Washington and Havana since diplomatic relations were severed after Fidel Castro’s revolution in 1959—a period marked by Cold War alliances with Moscow and later economic dependence on Venezuela.
