Rep. María Elvira Salazar, U.S. Representative for Florida’s 27th congressional district, posted a series of messages on social media on September 1 and 2, 2025. Her posts addressed both the celebration of Labor Day and concerns about U.S. sanctions on Cuba.
On September 1, Salazar recognized workers in Miami and across the country, writing: “Happy Labor Day from Miami to everyone around the nation! To the teachers, nurses, construction crews, and every worker who keeps this city moving, you are the backbone of America. On Labor Day we celebrate the American worker, but we appreciate your grit everyday!”
The following day, she focused on U.S.-Cuba policy in two separate posts. In her first message from September 2, Salazar stated: “As someone who represents hundreds of thousands of people that fled the tyranny of the Cuban regime, I will not stand by while sanctions are undermined. Every dollar that slips through strengthens the murders in Havana and weakens U.S. policy. That’s why I sent a letter to https://t.co/eBQ7e3n6uM”
Salazar has been vocal about issues related to Cuba throughout her tenure in Congress. She represents a district with a significant Cuban-American population and has frequently advocated for maintaining strict sanctions against the Cuban government.
