Steve Cortes, President of the League of American Workers, said on April 25 that “Miami is the strongest major city in America right now,” according to a video preview trailer for his new documentary, The Miami Model, which he shared via X ahead of the full release. The content forms part of his ongoing Cortes Investigates series examining policy impacts on cities and residents. The trailer was posted on April 24, with the full documentary becoming available on April 28.

The topic is significant as it highlights urban policy approaches contributing to Miami’s performance relative to challenges faced by other major U.S. cities. Miami has seen notable population growth and economic activity during a period when many large cities are experiencing different trends.

Cortes said, “Miami has become one of the best cities in the world. In contrast, some of the once-greatest cities in America—I’m talking about Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York—flounder. They have become unlivable for regular people. When the best and boldest entrepreneurs flee, it’s a big warning sign.” According to U.S. Census Bureau data, Miami city added 16,337 residents between 2023 and 2024, placing it among the top gaining large U.S. cities during a period when Southern locations experienced accelerated population increases. Florida continues to draw domestic and international movers drawn by its business environment and lifestyle offerings. The Miami metro area stands out for its combination of economic activity and appeal to working families seeking stability.

National violent crime rates continued to decline in 2025, with reported homicides dropping 21 percent across 35 major cities, representing 922 fewer incidents than the prior year. Broader trends show property crime also falling, while select high-tax jurisdictions have recorded comparatively slower recoveries in public safety metrics. Miami benefits from Florida’s overall policy framework that includes no state personal income tax, supporting retention of earnings for residents and businesses.

Cortes previously advised President Trump during the 2016 and 2020 campaigns and has contributed commentary across major networks. He founded the League of American Workers to focus on issues affecting working-class Americans and has directed political efforts emphasizing Hispanic outreach, along with polling and economic policy. Cortes has produced multiple documentaries through his Cortes Investigates platform on topics ranging from urban development to national priorities.
